What is a drink coconut?

The drink coconut is a hand-picked coconut harvested while still young, when it contains a lot of fresh coconut water. The drink coconut is creamy white in colour, sometimes with brown patches. As the name says, the drinking coconut is used for drinking from. There is very little coconut flesh in the young coconut but it contains a lot of coconut water.

Coconut water is not the same as coconut milk. Coconut milk is made from the flesh of the (hairy) coconut. Coconut water is the liquid from inside the coconut.

Where do drink coconuts come from?

Originally, this coconut comes from India and South America. We source our drink coconuts from Asia: Vietnam and Thailand.

How do you store drink coconuts?

Before selling, drink coconuts must be stored in a cool, dry place at 0 to 2°C and at a relative humidity (RH) of 80 to 85%.

We recommend that consumers store drink coconuts in the refrigerator at between 2 and 7°C.

How do you drink from drink coconuts?

The skin of the coconut is very tough. Drill a hole through the top and drink the coconut water through a straw. Or cut off the pointed top with a large, sharp kitchen knife. There are special coconut drills available that make them even easier to open.
