The blackberry is related to the strawberry. The deep blue fruits with a characteristic aroma consist of numerous so-called partial fruits. The first blackberries of the season sometimes taste slightly tangy, but afterwards they are sweet and juicy.

Blackberries must be stored in a cool place, between 1°C and 2°C.

Fresh blackberries have a deep blue to black colour and look cool and dry. Blackberries are fragile, so handle them carefully.
Dutch blackberries are available from April to November. When the Dutch season is over, the blackberries mainly come from Mexico, Spain, Guatemala and Portugal.
