The rambutan is one of the most beloved fruits in Southeast Asia. The spiny red skin contains a glossy, edible slightly acidic but sweet tasting fruit. Rambutans are also called “hairy lychee” because the fruit is reminiscent of a lychee, but the skin is completely different. The rambutan has a juicy, sweet and sour taste.

Before selling, rambutan must be stored in a cool, dry place at 2 to 6°C and at a relative humidity (RH) of 90 to 95%.
We recommend that consumers store rambutans at room temperature. Rambutans will quickly lose their flavour when stored in the refrigerator.
Slice around the outside of the rambutan, and then easily squeeze the fruit out. The flesh of the rambutan is a glossy white colour. The seed is not edible. The fruit is not only delicious when fresh, it is also incredibly tasty in fruit salads or in a dessert.
The skin turns red when the rambutan is ripe. A discoloration on the skin of the rambutan is often caused by oxygen and light. The product can still be sold, unless it is dark brown and dried up.
Rambutans originally come from Malaysia and Indonesia. The name is the Malay word for rambut, which means “hair”. Our Discovered rambutans primarily come from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Guatemala.
Rambutan goes under our brand Discovered. The packaging on Discovered products provides not only details about their source and flavour – and the standard table of nutritional values – but also explains how the product should be stored and prepared.
