Avocado

Avocados are round to pear-shaped fruits that have a relatively hard skin. The colour of the skin varies from green to almost black. The yellowish-green flesh of the avocado has a creamy, nutty flavour. The flesh is high in fat, with a fat content that can reach up to 30%. However, these are largely monounsaturated fats, primarily oleic acid (healthy fats). This means avocados are incredibly good for you! The demand for avocados in Europe is still rising. Avocado continues to be popular due to its versatility, creamy taste and healthy characteristics. Yex provides active promotional support for this wonderful product and we will be happy to help you with promotions and activities!

Storage advice Avocado

In the store
Before selling, avocados must be stored in a cool, dry place at 10°C and at a relative humidity (RH) of 85 to 90%.
At home
Store avocados in a cool place (12-15°C). Don’t store in the refrigerator as this interrupts the ripening process.

Usage tips Avocado

Avocados are delicious as is, with just a little salt and pepper. They also add a wonderful flavour to salads, soups and sauces. You can also add slices of avocado to your sandwiches to make them even more flavourful. Extra tip for the consumer Avocado can even be used as a butter substitute on your bread!

Maturity / Freshness Avocado

A ripe avocado will feel soft when you lightly press around the base of the fruit. If you want to store ripe (ready-to-eat) avocados for longer, then you can put them in the refrigerator, but for no more than a few days. If you store your avocados in a fruit bowl together with apples, pears or bananas, this will promote the post-ripening process. If you would like to store your avocados for longer or use them slightly later, then store them separately from other fruit, in your pantry, for example.
