The muscat squash or muscat pumpkin is a delicious pumpkin that comes in a multitude of varieties. Its standard shape is usually oblate and ribbed, but can vary in size and shape. The rind is green at first and changes to an orangey brown/beige colour as the squash ages. The soft flesh has a lot of fibre and is dark yellow to orange in colour.

Before selling, the muscat squash must be stored in a cool, dry place at 10 to 13°C and at a relative humidity (RH) of 75%. Do not store together with apples.
We recommend that consumers store their muscat squash in a cool, dry place and not in the refrigerator.
Slice the squash vertically down the middle and remove the seeds and membranes. Spoon the flesh out. The rind and seeds are not edible. The squash can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes. Muscat squash can be eaten raw, roasted, steamed, boiled or sautéed. The flesh is very good in soups and curries. Pumpkins are also often used in pies and stews.
